Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful, that’s what matters to me.

iPad 2 eh? More like iPad 1.5

Giving the iPad hardware such a low end update with no retina display and the same battery life makes this another cash grab. iPad 1 should have had the cameras in the first place. I’d give it a “Don’t Buy” for the fact that Apple thinks it’s customers are mindless drones that will buy anything. Seems like Apple’s changing into the thing that they feared most: Big Brother.
Apple’s losing touch with it’s customers. Give us value, not just another shiny thing.

The iPad POS is designed for coffee shops, bakeries or any specialty retail shop with fewer than 150 items. It prints receipts and pops the cash drawer like a standard register, but it takes up very little space.

5 People I’d like to have a beer with.
#5 Kevin Rose
The creator of Digg.com, Kevin Rose might be pretty young in the field of web start ups, but damn he’s hit a few game winning home runs. Currently the CEO of Digg.com, co-founder of wefollow.com (Yellow Pages for Twitter), Pownce.com(Social Microblogging platform, Sold to Six Apart) and Revision3 (a leader in creating solid internet tv). Kevin Rose has created and followed his goals to make even the most successful entrepreneurs question: “what the F am I doing wrong?” He does all this while still having a blast and drinking beers on his weekly video podcast Diggnation.
#4 Bill Gates/Steve Jobs
Okay, I know I’m kinda cheatting here, but honestly, wouldn’t it be awesome to see these two in a room just talking smack, and chatting about where they failed and succeeded in life and work? Steve and Bill didn’t just invision a world with computers, they actually did it. Hats off to Billy boy though for predicting the iPad 3 years ago. I’d buy them both a shot.
3.) Jonathan Ives
Johnny is THE all star of the industrial design world. He’s been working for Apple since 1997, and has been inventing and reinventing the iconic designs of the iPod, iMac and the sexy MacBook lineup ever since. If there would be one modern industrial designer that you should respect and idol over, its Ives. Having a coffee or a beer with Johnny would probably give any industrial geek an iHardOn. Check out his appearance in Objectified, a documentary about ID.
2.) Stefan Sagmeister

If you’re not in tune with the world of graphic design, Sagmeister is pretty much the shit. He’s thought of things designers wish they would have thought of first. The Meister’s got creative work that sticks in your mind. He delivers unique and honest messaging thru any medium, and it works! The guy closes his studio and takes 1 year long sabbaticals every 8 years! He takes part of his retirement years and splices it into his working years, genious! Do yourself a favour and watch this TED talk about taking some time off.
1.) Richard Branson

This guy is the epitome of a successful and cool entrepreneur. He’s loaded, has a gorgeous island, smiles all the time and has a sweet perma-tan. His mega brand of awesomeness Virgin, is on all sorts of cool businesses; Music, beverages, telecommunications, trains, planes, and his often overlooked grand vision for space tourism. SPACE TRAVEL! This is the type of guy that gives entrepreneurs a good name, be happy and follow your “out of this galaxy” ideas, no matter who tells you otherwise.
He’s got a good book on how he approaches business too. :)

InfoMania’s Tech Report has a great example of how Apple is limiting the heck out of internet on their iPad by not allowing Flash. In my opinion, saying “Flash is dead” when HTML5 isn’t even standardized yet is a little premature. Seems like a lot of people are betting on HTML5, if it doesn’t deliver, I’m predicting a lot of disappointed people. via Current

Slick iPhone Credit Card reader from Mophie

Much slicker looking than the Square Up one, but doesn’t seem to have the whole backend or app developed for it like Square up does. This one looks much sturdier.

Apple iAds
Apple’s new iAds include a more indepth way of displaying ads into apps for the iPhone and iPad. Similar to a Video Egg system, iAds will display microsite like ads on top of your current app, and can use the devices hardware, like GPS (and maybe one day your contact list) to make a better sale. I predict location based ads will flourish after the new iPhone OS’s release in the Summer.

Defending the iPad, when the internets have already turned on it.

Lack of Apps & Peripherals
It’s not a laptop replacement; it’s a glorified eReader. You don’t need 3 usb ports, 3-in-1 media card reader, a CD/DVD/BlueRay burner, and a PCI express card slot on a Kindle. We already have Smartphones and Laptops. If you’d expect a kindle to replace your laptop, you’re an idiot.
When the iPhone v1 was released in 2007; it didn’t have an app store, cut & paste, a remote app or tethering. The “app store” and “cut & paste” where both created on a hacked iPhone OS first, its usability fined tuned over time and then apple adopted it. These are the innovations that come to a device over time, once it’s out to the masses; then we’ll see really cool things happening.

Usesless/No need for its existence
With Apples momentum from its Solid OS, iPods, iPhones and laptops, the iPad is going to succeed in ways the Microsoft surface only dreamed off. Popularizing and bringing an affordable large touch screen device to the masses brings us one step closer to these futuristic interfaces we see in Star Trek and Minority Report. COMMON! What geek wouldn’t want that?
Price
The iPad is a device that’s less then a centimeter thick, plays HD video, sends emails, has WIFI, plays video games and lasts 10 hours for 500 bucks. THAT’S AMAZING! Stop complaining! The price of the iPhone v1(8gb) was $599 dollars; today an iPhone v3(16gb) is $199. After a year and a million sales, it’ll drop. If you can’t afford it, don’t buy one.
“Why a Bezel!?”
We’re humans; if we could levitate objects with our minds and not use our hands to hold things then yes, no bezel is required.
One more thing
The hype build up for the iPad was so much, that if Apple released the best Touch/Laptop hybrid ever, the internets would still find a way to complain. I think we should accept this newborn device into our homes for the fact that it’s nice a choice between a kindle and a netbook and I can’t friggen wait to experience new innovations and applications on my new iTampon.

Innovative ideas:
- TV remote: Where one could scroll through dozens of live TV feeds in a thumbnail grid; touch one and throw the tv channel towards the tv and it would appear on your TV. Create a unique remote control layout for yourself or your kids.
- “Smart Connect” (A virtual extension of multiple devices)
Putting an iPad on your desk with an MacBook, it would connect and be aware of each others presents and work together. Simply throwing a document/presentation/images to the left or right of your laptop screen could seamlessly sync to your tablet for a meeting. Sharing documents/notes with other iPads would be as easy as flicking a finger. This connection could work with anything in your home, TVs, Printers, Fridge PCs, etc.
